Many water and waste-water processing plants are often simple enough that a full-featured PLC or RTU is not justified. However, keeping a fleet of maintenance personnel for periodic service and inspection can incur in increased costs, and often failures go unnoticed for extended periods of time.

Likewise, an increasing number of districts are introducing new legislation for improved resource management, as well as flow metering.
